We have just completed a completely unique job at this special needs school in North London. We have called it the Eco Hub. The brief from the school was as follows:

  1. They needed something which stimulated sensory and physical play
  2. The wanted a building which promoted sustainability and environmental awareness

The building is essentially a standard 4m x 4m outdoor classroom shelter but it is the modifications and accessories that make it interesting and unique. It features the following:

  • Educational renewable energy equipment which is comprised of a wind turbine, solar panel and internally mounted control panel with sockets, datalogger and bulk head light
  • Roof guttering and water butt with planters for water harvesting
  • Bird box
  • Bug house panel
  • Extended decking area for power generating pedal bikes and hand cranks and with in-built access ramp
  • Roll-down canvas panels to the side windows and entrance
  • Electric pedal bespoke system to include bike generators and hand cranks; power management system; music control system with drum interface; bubble making machine and sound system with Bose speakers and blue tooth

This is best seen by clicking on the link given below which also features a video of the eco hub in action!

And we also supplied a specially adapted rounded door to give access to this area so that the children could feel that they are entering a special space
