Outdoor Classrooms Used As School Libraries

We have noticed a lot of requests recently from schools who are looking to have an outdoor classroom used as a library. The main reason for wanting to have a separate building outside in the school grounds is for a couple of reasons:

Firstly, there is not enough spare space inside the main school building as every square inch is utilised. But just as importantly, due to the sheer nature of what it is being used for i.e a library, there is a need to have a space of quietness and tranquility (which again might not easily be found in the melee of the main school building!).

We have found too that schools are looking for this place to be inspiring – somewhere the children actually will want to go and feel sufficiently relaxed in to read and study. And of course, it has to be able to be used all year round and is usually insulated and heated (the last thing you want is the building getting damp inside and ruining all of the library books).

The Hideout House Company have a range of such buildings which are suitable for all of the above – but the most popular choices seem to our buildings which are a bit “quirky” shall we say. These would be our Hideout House Cabinsoutdoor classroom pods and our enclosed modular classroom range. The choice of building really depends upon the budget available, the space required and the size of area where it is being sited. In certain cases, we can also fit extra shelving for the books.

There are also certain grants available at the moment which schools might want to take advantage of. Sometimes these outdoor classroom libraries are used as sensory rooms, nurture rooms, mindfulness areas and calming environments.

If your school would like to discuss the possibility of having one of our outdoor buildings to be used as the school library room, then please contact us on 01832 275902 or email: info@hideouthouse.com
